Hi there
I am looking for some help
I have a young plum tree which produced quite a lot of blossom and started to produce fruit
The plums reached a size of about 7-8mm and then they seem to have withered and dropped off
The tree appears to be perfectly healthy otherwise
If anyone can tell me why and what to do about it I would really appreciate it
Thanks

I look forward to seeing any responses papamo - as the same thing has happened with my plum tree! I plan on pruning the new growth in the next day or two - unless someone tells me not to!

you need to be patient with new fruit and it is common for them to make blossom in their early years but it doesn't set properly, tries to form fruit but it drops off, plus it has been so dry which doesn't help - all fruit trees shed a certain amount of fruit, the small ones need to fall off to make the rest much better and bigger, so be patient and the next year or two will show big advances as long as it is being looked after properly

Hi there
I agree with calendula. this june and may have been really punishing for fruit trees due to the drought and the tree sheds the fruit it just cant support.

Ususally you are left with plums on the tree that will now go on to develop, especially since theres recent rain.

The only reason to worry would be if every single plum had gone and there was noticable leaf or trunk symptoms like weeping or going white.

Otherwise the plums still on will now be bigger and healthier now theres less competiton.
