I've got a bit of extra space going spare at the moment. Its well dug and partly manured by pigs. I've got several pumpkins and a few squash already growing in pots and also some corn and mini corn in trainers all just about ready to plant out.  Even so I'll still have some spare ground.  I know it is late but any ideas what to grow? I'm looking for something easy and fairly low maintenance, as I won't have much time to spend on the extra space.
Thanks

How much is a bit? Is it enough to put in a dozen asparagus plants. It sounds ideal growing conditions for them.
They do not take a lot of looking after, just weed and support the lovely ferns that appear after harvesting. You will have to wait a year or so before harvesting but mine have got better and better over the last five years.

Thanks Queenbee, Yum love asparagus, but I already have a bed. My fault I should have explained more to say this is more of a temporary extra space in addition to my veggie plot. Its lovely looking soil and is due to be reseeded eventually, I just thought I could make the most of it for a little bit and who knows maybe take some of it over ;D although not all as its quite a large area and more than I realistically need.

Salad  stuff, oriental salad stuff or second crop potatoes are now being sold for spuds before christmas. Failing that green manure but it does not sound like you need it :)

You said partly manured - can you tell which bits have and which haven't? If so - carrots and beetroot on the hasn't been manured part.

French or runner beans?
gone to pot :D

dwarf french beans, (more) courgettes, fennel? Bit early for oriental salads, I think
