Can anybody recommend a good wild mushroom book so that I can pick my own without poisoning either Ian or myself in the process?

Ta muchly.

Ive got an old Observers book of mushrooms, very informative. Tried a few different varieties but some of them are an acquired taste :-X

Aha - it's that time of year again!  I have half a dozen books - and they look brilliant!  But . . .  to be honest, I don't trust 'em.

And you've reminded me that I've missed (yet again :-() the organised mushroom "hunting" expeditions (with experts!) which run in a couple of local parks from mid-October to early November.  Personally, I'd rather trust the human guide?

All best - Gavin

My local forest runs mushroom hunts every Autumn. I'd much prefer to go on one of those rather than rely on a book. Some mushrooms look very similar, but one is edible and the other poisonous.
gone to pot :D

Yes, Eileen, take Aqui's advice and go on an organised trip!  ;D One easy way to spot a common mushroom is if it's got pink gills and a FRILL on the stem. No frill, no eat. Comprendez?
