I have a fig tree in a pot ,the tree is about 3 years old . It has put on very little growth and not even one tiny pea size fig.can anyone tell me the right compost and conditions for it please?

Ideally the pot should be quite large one or in ground..in a slab lined pit which is filled with something close to John Innes no2 compost..or by mixing some top/garden soil, multipurpose and grit. You want growing medium which is able to hold moisture and it is well draining too..
Have you fertilized your tree since you planted it..In pot where the tree is dependant from what you give it to it..I would give handfull of blood,fish and bone meal during spring and summer months...once a every 4-6 weeks or so..and keep it well watered..late winter handfull of bone meal..and that's should be enough for the tree to grow..
You said it is 3 years old..has it been in same compost all this time?..Is there any evidende of insect damage on leaves..I'm thinking about that chance of having vine weevils eating the roots..but then you should have some chewed leaves too..
Have you topped up that soil surface with compost since planting..?

Mine was in an old stlyle plastic dustbin sunk in the ground.XX Jeannine

I have a fig in a (probably broken now) pot about 2 ft diameter sunk into the ground so the top of the pot is about soil level. I treat it almost like I treat blackcurrants, cutting out a third of the branches, the oldest ones, in late winter/early spring, every year so there are lots of nice fresh stems coming out for the fruit to form on the following year.
