What has had my carrots?

Got to the lottie this morning and found a row of carrots all lying on the surface!  Some had been eaten to the green others just left lying on the surface a few were ignored (2) and left in the row.  There is no sign of damage to the bed - no foot prints.   No damage to any of the surrounding rows of vegs.

Bit of a mystery really - do you reckon it could have been a rat?  We don't have rabbits on the allotment otherwise I would have seen their footprints and poo.
