How long do spring onions(Spring Lisbon)take to grow from seed to the table? What can i do with old compost i have already used for growing?I have planted several tomato plants, both in growbags and in 12 ins.pots.Some are going crinkly after the 1st.truss.I have been pinching out side shoots as instructed. Some plants seem to have a lot of foliage below the the 1st.truss.Do these need de-leafing.I live on the isle of Portland and we get a lot of dry weather.I water the tomatoes little and often, and feed tomato feed once a week. Also my Greyhound cabbages have taken off wellbut their leaves are now resting on my carrot foliage which i suppose i planted to close. Will this damage the carrot growth.Last but not least iplanted out potatoes at the beginning of April from a mail order company. They supply the bags etc.As I had three seedlings left over i put this directly into the soil. These are now flowering.Does this mean that they are ready for lifting?Sorry it's a long list but i will welcome advice and reply to all e-mails.Kind regards Number 1.

spring onion...couple of months or so..and you can start taking first out of ground..
old compost...you can re-use it by growing something else than you use it previously for..just to put some nutrients back you could mix it with some fresh compost and bit of fish, blood and bone meal..or you can use it as mulch on ground around other plants..or put it in compost bin..
tomatoes..your little and often method may not wet the compost properly..and that's why the plants may be crinkly..there is also difference between varieties how vigorously they grow so some may need de-leafing..but if you plants are growing so differently I suspect that they are getting/taking feed and water in different rates..those that are strugling give them water bit more generously and those that are growing really lush..cut back with feed..you are growing leaves instead of fruit..once you trusses are fully grown and are starting the ripening, take off some large leaves that are shading the trusses  ...continue...

carrots...they do still grow..but your cabbages will grow even bigger still..so for time being you could try to direct the cabbage leaves more upright with canes to give carrots a bit more room and maybe start harvesting those first that are getting swamped.. ;)
potatoes...without knowing what variety they are it is difficult to say how long they will take to crop..but that they are flowering is certainly indication that they may soon start producing.. ;D..give a couple of more weeks and then have a look..just lift one plant up and see what they have done..if they are still very small..leave rest of them for another couple of weeks to bulk up..
unless you like very small potatoes..they are edible..and will be very sweet..but not much to fill your belly with... ;D
