Are strawberries from seed, hardy?

The reason that I ask is that nearly all of the strawberry plants that I grew last year from seed, have died after the hard Winter last year, even though they had some plastic protection. The standard strawberry varieties are now in flower.
The seed variety was Florian. How have others got on with overwintering Florian?

I overwintered Florian and Sarian in baskets and pouches in a polytunnel last winter. They have all come through fine and I had my first handful of strawberries yesterday yum!

Strawberries outside in the ground did ok too, but Irrisistable in a strawberry tower everyone dead.

It would not have been as cold down here though I think :)

I too raised Florian from seed last year and they seem to have overwintered with no problems (despite being buried in snow!)  they are at the same stage now as our plants in their third year and are in full flower - no theories on why yours didn't make it I'm afraid  :(  such a shame though, those pink flowers are so unusual
