No I wouldn't as they'll start sprouting or go soft! Wait and buy new ones next year.

I planted onion set this time last year and they turned out fine if a bit smaller than normal. I've a spare 1/2 a bed, if I see them or early spuds they are going in  ;)

Cheers, I got a batch out into containers at "the right time" as I couldn't plant direct then. I would rather have more small onions than too few so I'll give it a go with the rest of the onion setts I have.

campanula

no, they will sprout or dry out. Don't be such a tightwad!

No it does not even work to plant them late.

Those on sale cheap now are only fit for the compost bin.

Don't waste your money. It is not a bargain buy.  If some one tells you they have had a harvest from such a late sowing they were either very lucky or they are fibbing.

Every year some one tells me they have got some cheap and last year even I was tempted at 30 ish pence or so for a bag.  Just a waste of space. Few people admit to buying a mistake but when I told those who had previously bragged about their bargain that my results were rubbish they THEN agreed that theirs had only produced a few small onions, not worth having.

If small onions are good enough for you then why not sow some White Lisbon?

Do the job properly and get a result.
