No Dig

We sort of do no dig. Well it's no dig, apart from that the entire veg plot (it's in the garden, not allotment) has been double dug. I do my spuds normally, not the no-dig way. And when the soil gets a crust on it (we're on heavy clay) we dig over the top layer to loosen it up. But I don't intend to dig again, just mulch loads.

I love digging. But I find it exhausting now due to my health. And I don't really have time due to my toddler! When I feel the urge to dig, I dig the compost bins!

I keep it reasonably weed free and tidy (well no cardboard/carpet anyway). But as it's my garden I've got more interest in having it tidy.

I do green manures. I like my veg beds to be full of flowers, both to look pretty for me and to attract beneficial insects. And I garden organically (because it's cheaper, so I don't poison my son and because I'm a bit of a hippy!)

I suspect some of the really untidy plots might be using no dig as an excuse for no work!
