So given the job as Chancelor of the UK Exchequer what would you add tax on to?

Or what is your guess they will put up?

What about putting 50% VAT on Botox injections when given as a beauty  treatment.  Only the rich and vain have them.

I have heard it suggested that food will have VAT on it.

sweet jesus - george osborne as c of e....what sort of nightmare lies ahead.

Unwashed

I'll take the job PH.  This is what I'd do:

I'll abolish National Insurance, Stamp Duty, Car Tax, Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Corporation Tax, Council Tax, Council Parking Charges, University Tuition Fees, and every other tax and duty apart from income tax.

I'll keep income tax at 35% on earned income over £12.5k.

I'll save shed loads because I'll sack all the civil servants who collect all the different taxes and you'll never need a tax advisor because there will only be one simple income tax.

We can't have no VAT and still be in Europe so we'll just leave, and I'll probably be a bit short of cash so we'll scrap trident and slash the defence budget too.

Will you vote for me?

The first thing I would do is cut out all these

Means tested benefits.

It is often unknown but the cost of checking if people are entitled to what they claim  they ARE entitled to costs in checking  MORE than than what is recovered if cheating is identified.

Thousands of civil servants check your claim for things like free prescriptions and free dental treatment.

That is why all over 60's get the £250 a year heating allowance. Why all the disabled and OAPs can claim for a free bus pass. If it these were means tested......The cost of checking on civil servants wages would .

The people with families are able to claim more in benefits than any other area of claimants. The biggest problem is when the mother of children gets a 'partner'. That partner, by law is expected to then keep the mother and her children.

A single mother gets a fixed amount. That is fine if she wants to be celebate. Often her children's fathers lapse with their obligation to support their children. she finds a new partner and HE is expected to support her family too.

This is an issue which needs addressing.

Means testing costs a lot more than is ever recovered from what is called fraud.

In fact, in  a lot of cases all the poor woman wated was a normal life and how can she get one when she is forced to either live alone or has to ask any bloke who will take her on to keep another man' kids?

Give all mothers a fixed income and deduct the same from the father's tax.

Family Allowance is an out dated way of paying money for kids. End it after the child reaches the age of 10. By then mothers could get back to doing some sort of work. It is paid up to the age of 16, in some circumstances 18.

Now come on, a normal, well brought up 12 year old is mature enough to not need a full time mother. Where can (he or she ) get a job?

Mr Smith

I would stop family allowance after one child god knows why we pay it anyway this is not 1948, you breed you pay(2) any juvenile getting pregnant, sorry love make your own way in life it is not the countries problem but your families,(3) bring back the troops from Germany and use them for a real border patrol around the coast of the UK which will save millions on bases in Germany,(3) close down all immigration centers in the UK because we will not need them and with a bit of luck we will be out of the EU Human rights act,  someone with any bottle might take the decision,(4) get lazy arse holes back to work rather than stand in the pub all week,  I don't think we need tax rises or more fuel duty because we are just paying for the tossers that don't want to know,
