Hi,sorry I've no photo(my camera has been "mislaid") but thought one of you may recognise the description....

I've all my seedlings in paper pots, several of them, cabbage, toms ,peppers and chillis have  strange 'caviar' looking orange and red balls on the top of the soil. Also down the outside of the pots.I think I've been careful with watering, just moist not sapping.

Any ideas? Many thanks

No not caviar...but it is called something that I'm not able pronounce.. ::)...anyway..grows on surface of rotting wood..inedible... ;)
Should not have any effect on your plants..you must have something questinable mixed in your compost..eg.."lumps" of woody material..

Thanks goodlife,I used a seemingly good quality compost but there were a few small woody bits.....The plants affected seem to be doing as good as the ones not, wait n see I guess...
