Cow pots?

Are these in the UK,I don't remember them but they may be just new I guess.

Made from cow doodoo, supposed to be very good, but like peat post inasmuch as you plant the whole thing and supposedly you don't need to fertilise much!!

Sounds good but no idea if it is just another gimmick..anybody know?

nope I haven't heard about them either, but having been a few places and seen that they use cow dung for just about everything else why not pots!  ;D

They look intresting although I've not seen or heard of them before. Perhaps a little new to have reached our shores yet. Are you going to try some out?

I don't know, I don't usually buy gimmicky,maybe when I see them in the shops and can get alook I might try a packet

Not seen them before Jay..this is the land of sani pads for poodles, and kiddie cages to stop your Houdini kid from escaping from his playpen , so what do you expect!!

I think they would be very similar to peat pots, although I'm not a fan, I know many swear by them. If they have been processed to remove smell etc, I wonder how much nutrient is left that, from a growing perspective, would make them beneficial over other pots. Ecologically they may make sense and worth trying I would have thought  :)

I'm not sure if they are better than peat pots or not.  They are similar.  If anything they are better because they come from a renewable resource (poop pots) haha. Plus they use the gas that's removed from the poop to power the equipment to make them.  It's quite interesting.  They were invented by a dairy farmer in Connecticut.   Here's a link to the farm website that invented them Freund's Farm...  http://freundsfarmmarket.com/catalog/

I think we will see more of this sort of thing as more and more 'peat' substitutes are produced/invented.

Just think peat was once the same consistancy as cow pats as was chicken pellets!

So I see no problem with them other than they will add to the cost of gardening as commercialism takes over.

They do add to the cost but hopefully the fun and the success too.  I believe that dairy farmer makes more money off the cowpots than off the milk.  Which means poop is worth more than milk.  Who would of figured that.

Would they be any good if made from the poop of cows who'd eaten grass that had been sprayed with aminothingy??

Several years ago in Thailand we went on a very nice trip riding Elephants and all sorts, on the way home we visited a factory (well they called it a factory)

It was a place where a guy was washing Elephant poo as stage one

Stage two, they took the solid matter and made it into paper.

Then they took us to a shop where the elephant poo paper had been made into objects for every day use. Unimpressed we did not make a purchase and the rep, no doubt eager for his percentage, told us how unusual the objects were to take home as a gift.

I could just imagine my friends being thrilled to be told that this item would lookl great in your house, it is made with reclaimed elephant dung.

Mind you, Cow pot Ice cream........That is even more puke invoking.

I can't help thinking they will smell when wet and as my growlight system is in my study I am not sure that would work for me..but I am trying to be open minded and have no doubt if I walk past them in a shop I will pick a few up. XX Jeannine

I've used them, they don't have an odor and they don't smell even when wet.
