i have leeks in the garden that have been there over the winter are they likely to be worth eating?

Yes... even if they aren't good enough for "leeks" as a veg they are great in several soups...  :)

I was moaning during the winter that my 'Giant Winter' Leeks were nothing like Giant.
But as soon as the weather started to warm up, they started to bulk up, and are now looking great.

Anybody know how lonh they will last in the ground, or should I dig them up and make a ton of soup?

A couple of weeks at most then they will start to bolt...  but they still make good soup... just cut out the hard flower stem..

Unwashed

My Mussleburgh are still delicious and tender, though they did go in rather late.  Only a few left now though.

I only grow leeks for winter eating!

I don't see the point of summer leeks, they take up the space that I need for the  more exotic stuff I grow.

Winter cropping stuff is limited so leeks is a must, and here I am with 'Unwashed' Musselburgh fits the bill.

tee gee these leeks went in months ago the snow and ice kept everything in suspended animation for ages everything is now growing again

leeks can be cut ready and freezed as it is..then there is no need to grow it in summer and it will last fine untill fresh new winter ones are ready again.... ;)

Cut the flower stem before it gets hard, slice and use like onion in cooking.  Tastes a bit milder than onion but close enough.  Around the same time use the rest of the plant or it will be too late.

I've still got quite a few left in the ground, I gave some away today but I better dig the rest up.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Dig them up and freeze them, you can use them any time.
