succession alderman peas

ok, I may be being dense here...but it says on packet to plant every 2 weeks for succession. I understand the principal of not getting crop all at once BUT does that mean (for family of 4) I plant 12 peas now...then 12 more in two weeks??? I think I am missing something :(

you'll need a lot more than 12 peas. Don't forget all the peas you have to eat when you're out there picking them  :D

i've just planted out my third lot of peas. That's 3 whole packets

Always plant more than you think you will need I plant a minimum of 120 plants for 2 of us, then a load more as there are always friends & family who start sentences with the words 'can I have...' in the unlikely event there is an excess then they can always be frozen.

I sow mine as follows;

Next week I will sow three trays as shown in slide show (3x15x4) = 180 peas.

When I plant out in mid-late May I sow a similar amount directly into the soil (seperate rows)

Then when my first lot are in flower I will sow another batch in trays (as first batch) and these will go in as plants when my first lot are harvested!

This is so helpful. I have never grown enough peas to get many home but this year will be the year. Am going to grow Alderman, Colossal, Serpette de something, plus Green Hurst something too. I may not have room for anything else but I will have peas!

We start them in pots 6-10 and a pot per cane...
but as we save our own that's not really a problem.
