Yes I'm one of those..well maybe not old but behaving like one...
What is it when you work for somebody's garden...for years they have been happy and left you to it..we always talk and have a chat what's going to happen here and there..and plant about different plants...
And then every spring they come and start hinting about cutting the lawn shorter...GRRR!...just had one of those talks yesterday, and I'm still trying to get steam out of my system..
And every year you tell them same thing again..."well, bit early for short one...your lawn is not right type of grasses for really short one..we cannot treat it like golf course, if we do we have to do this and that..and the cost..the time...if we cut it really short..this and that will happen...etc..etc.." ::) ::)
All I want to do is just take barrow, light a pipe (don't even smoke) and walk away... ::)

They are not listening to what you say.

Some people don't. They talk and whilst you are speaking they are thinking of what to say next instead of listening to you.

IF you do what they want, they will see the damage and it will register better. Make it clear that you are doing it at their request and against your better judgment. Then whe you return you can say 'I told you so'.

..last year I did give in..
I did cut all the lawns really short :o :o..awful...
..I just tried to prove the point.. ::)
and now I'm dealing with the problems it coursed..moss...over seeding...scarifying..coring...so much extra work.. ::)
..AND THEY WANT ME TO DO ALL OVER AGAIN!!!..short..short..
This time I won't do it..they can get new gardener if they want really short lawns..bonkers!!
I know it they garden but they will moan about weeds if and when those start taking over..can't get everywhere..girl's only have one pair of hands.. ::)
Pheww...starting to feel a bit better now.... 8)

I would love to see GW to do lawn program where they would show folks...
"this is bowling green..this is golf green...this is domestic good quality lawn.."
with close up shots..and they would explain why each lawn is like it is..
what is the difference with a care..etc...
I would do so much good for everybody...all golfers think that golf greens are the ultimate desire for their homes too.. ::)

People are odd with their comments on other people's gardens.  I feed me daffodils every year and every year someone tells me you don't need to becuase they just grow, and every year someone comments about how bonny my daffodils are.

Sometimes people even ask how I get them so nice and then reject the answer.  I rather ignore back seat drivers/gardeners.

who pays the wages. If you worked for me you would be down the road.

yes....propably...but my employers are big on saving money..and by cutting lawn short cost them LOTS and LOTS with extra work and  materials...but it just doesn't sink  in..and they think that the lawn needs cutting less often if it is cut short...garden is in sandy soil...a bit of dry spell and lawns soon go brown...cannot use water..they are on meter... ::)
..so I would be very happy to leave you to it....it would be very long road to come and fetch me back.... ;)
