My nephew has bought about 3 acres of agricultural land and wants to create one or more allotments. He has already started with some planting of his own (in beds) and has fenced off roughly the suggested area of 250 sq metres, and the planning manager has been and told him that he not allowed to carry out any "private recreational activity" on this land, as this is how he classifies the allotment. There is no doubt that he agrees it is agricultural land, and I have read that making an allotment is an acceptable agricultural activity and does not need planning permission.

Does anyone know anything about this?

I'd give the managerial bloke a spade, set him digging for a couple of hours and then ask him if he found it recreational. If he said yes, I'd tell him to carry on.

Hes talking out af his arse.  Theres plenty of privately owned allotment sites.
