Planting spuds

I've had some Rocket tatties chitting for a couple of weeks now, but I've just sold my house. It'll probably be about 6-8 weeks before I move, is this too late to plant them? The shoots on them are very small atm.

You will get a reduced yield planting so late especially if it extend to 8 weeks.

I would be worried about the length and fragility of the shoots.

Why not plant them in a few sacks which can be moved anywhere?

Thanks for that, I did consider putting them in containers but did that last year and got a lot more from the ones grown in the ground. I also want to keep stuff I need to move down to a minimum. I might give them to someone.

If you can get them in by the middle of may theyll be fine. You can rub the chits off up to 3 times with no ill effect so if they get too long just start them off again.

Cheers, I might do that and hope for the best! It says on the packet that they'll be ready within ten weeks after planting, but is it possible to  chitt them for too long?

Yes Rocket is a quick cropper. If you left them chitting without planting eventually theyd run out fo steam but if you rub the chits off now they should  just about be ready to plant in May.

If you keep them somewhere light and not too warm the chits shouldn't develop too much.

That's exactly where I've got them, they're in the front porch which gets plenty of light but is only ever a few degrees above outside temperatures.

Have you got a friend or family that could plant them and go halves. ???      ;D ;D ;D

Rocket are early so they'll be fine as long as they're looked after meanwhile. I've planted spuds in May and got a crop before now.
