They are both root crops, of course you can grow them together, mine grow side by side every year with my onions, I think the geezers pulling your plonker.   ???     ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Perhaps his concern was becuase they are affected by similar pests and diseases, a bit like not growing tomato near potato incase one gets blight and passes it to the other, they are related you see both in Umbelliferae family (carrot and parsnips that is).  Perhaps another reason is that they may compete for similar nutriuents but i dont see how this differs from gorwing one carrot next to another.
Im the gaffer in our house, the missus said i could be.

I have always grown them together part of the root group on crop rotation.  Good thing no one here told them to object.

The reason I haven't in previous years is because I always seem to get carrot fly in the carrots, but no problems with the parsnips (even though they are never actually covered). Don't want the parsnips to get carrot fly too as they are near and too tempting for the dreaded beast!

Should think there is really no problem with it, but that is my worry.....

We grow them in the same bed and even when the carrots get fly they tend to leave the parsnips alone...  :-\

Maybe he means very close together, because of how big the parsnips grow.
