Hi all,

Can I put lime on the soil of growing onions/garlic; straight or mixed with compost or neither?

Thanks,

TD

i've never used lime on my onions or garlic.

Never though that onions needed liming....as to whether you can get away with it, can't see why not, they're hardly ericaceous.....

Why do you want to?

A friend said they grow better when limed??..Seems you guys think not..perhaps i won't bother then.

Not necessarily!

For instance; I only use lime if my pH value is incorrect, not because someone tells me to.

I find a  pH of 6.6-7.0(neutral) is fine for me!

So before we can answer the question we need to know the pH value of the area you plan growing your onions in.

I hope that clarifies the issue.......Tg
