Sprouts!!

I've managed to grow some and I'm chuffed, had some for dinner ;

my first lot 'blew' sowed a different variety...result ! this for me is like Spurs scoring nine goals ;D/ shades x

The ars lost, the Spurs scored 9 yes NINE and Shades 8) has eaten home grown sprouts, they say things come in threes.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

has anyone tried the sprout variety 'revenge' - thought about giving a friend some seeds of this variety for xmas  ;D

I wouldn't wish 'revenge' on you  :o but I do have 'falstaff' and 'evesham special' to spare if you want some - long time to wait though to next year's harvest  ;D

What did you think of "Falstaff"? I just ordered some seed at John_Miller's recommendation who said they are much milder than green sprouts.

cannot remember flavour really, sorry, but being a novelty colour makes it appealing to grow - my absolutely favourite sprout for flavour is Noisette, has that lovely nutty taste that I like with sprouts

There seems to be something of a problem since we have not had a frost. 

I have a few sprouts which I am saving for Christmas.  Luckily one of my allotment neighbours is inundated with them, so have got some in a swap for some runner bean plants.

Not only is allotmenting great but you benefit from other peoples efforts as well, and turn surpluses into other crops.   Mega.

This year we have Bosworth, Trafalgar and Falstaff.  Unfortunately they are all mixed up and I have no idea which plant is which.  ::) ::) ::)  But the first ones we had this year were lovely.

Last year I grew Falstaff and really liked the taste. A bit nuttier than another variety I don't know the name of.


The Falstaff suddenly decided to be affected by wind - and I did secure them!
The Evesham (first time I'm growing these) came up with just leaves and no stem. It looks like a lettuce head, but with cabbage leaves.
And another one just made a stem with two small leaves on top, so there is not enough 'energy' to grow a proper plant  ::).

Ah well, there is always next year.

Falstaff is purple. Or are the others also?

That's right, so it is!  So I think that could be one that didn't make it this year, because I haven't seen any purple ones on the plants.  Last year we had three purple plants, and they were easy to spot.  But this year the labels got muddled up and some didn't make it, so it is really pot luck.  At least the cabbage whites didn't get any this year, nor the pigeons.

i planted noisette and red rubine. The noisettes have been spectacular, the red rubines nearly all blown - wont plant again. Well maybe just one to see if firmer planting helps.

i have Evesham Special (in Denmark) and they are fantastic. We had a little frost in Oct. One plant blew..rest are great. And this is the 2nd year from same seed packet
