Went on a 12mile walk yesterday and used me new(and not me trusty old walking stick) trekking poles, early days i know but found using two sticks instead a one real pain, you've not got a free hand, kept tripping over the buggers, and the rackerling and tapping noise they make as you walk along got on my chesticles. :(

And don't you look a right pratt as well. ;D stick to the hooked walking stick at least you can reach the sloes and crab apples with it.

They are also allegedly causing quite a bit of damage to the footpaths, keep to a decent width stick.

I had two for my birthday, at my request, but find them a real pain.  The only time I could have used them was walking in Croatia when I fell down a steep hill and got badly bruised.  People are always forgetting them after a lunch stop or poking me when they climb over stiles.  Stick with the trusted stick.  Also my friend got stopped at customs as she hadn't got them in her suitcase but they were sticking out of her rucksack, after a lot of discussion they found rubber stoppers to put over the points and let her continue.

Do they help when out walking i could not tell  :-\
