Hi Everyone :)

Trying to be as self sufficient as possible I have an old coriander and dill plant, both of them have gone to seed the coriander is quite obvious with berry like green seeds my question with this one is what do I do now? When are they ready to be harvested and the best way to dry them out ready for use next year?

So far as the dill it has developed lived flower like heads big tall things Im presumming the tiny flower like heads are the seeds again when is best to harvest? Do I dry the whole flower like head then simply shake the seeds off?

ANy healp appreciated thanks in advance :)

Hang the plants up under glass to dry... collect the seeds in paper bags when they are ready to fall. Coriander seed germinates better after a crushing to break the outer case... both best sown in Spring...  :)

cleo

sometimes just letting them seed where they are seems to produce both coriander and dill that is less prone to going to seed the following spring

No idea why-just an observation over the years

hi

coriander: if you let them go tan/brown and then shake them into a bag you can plant them next year,  and benefit from those that fall and self seed as Cleo says.

dill: don't know as I haven't gathered the seed.

regarding suitabiltility I think any seed saved is better as it has grown in the local conditions. It seems to be true of legumes,
