When do you lime the onion bed for overwintering onions? The bed was dug and mucked in July

Why do you want to lime ??? is your soil out of fettle? eg acidic??

shirlton

Yes Teegee its acid. Very free draining sandy soil. I did a check last year and it was acid

Then in that case I would do it at planting out time.

To reduce the possibilty of interaction of lime & manure (ammonia) I think I would add my lime on the surface and let the winter weather take it gradually into the soil.....a bit like how I treat my brassicas.

Not having faced this situation before  ??? this is only my opinion.....Tg

Lets see what the others have to say!
