I am growing these for the first time this year, and as i've never seed the fruit in the shops don't know how big do they grow or who do i tell if the are ripe. Can anyone help?

It looks like a fascinating fruit. :)

Apparently it grows to around three feet, but I think someone forgot to mention that to your plant. ;)

 Thanks, It's properly two foot if you take the pot out, but i've been cutting it back all summer as it grows like mad.  I think i'll see if i can get it to go yellow before i eat it :)

Never grown them myself, but they are looking good...  :)

What do you do with them? are they like tomatillos.

their other name is melon pear because that is what they taste like, I've not eaten one yet so can't comment but the plants are nice and the cuttings that i put in water a week ago have rooted.

hi twoflower, how did you do the cuttings if you dont mind me asking ?
i have one of these plants, its growing well but no fruit on it  :(

Spooky, I brought one this afternoon, it has 7 nearly ripe fruit on it already - does anybody know if it will overwinter in a the polytunnel?

I cut about 6inches off the end of the branch and stuck in it water. After about a week it has lots of big white roots on it. :)
