does anyone know a cheap place to buy the spud sacks from? even ebay seems expensive..
right now i have a plastic bag full of earlys in my shed do you think they will be ok in there? or do i need to buy the proper sacks for storing

they will sweat in plastic bags speak to local chippy or restaurant for their empty paper sacks!!

Def not plastic... go with the chippy advice... hessian is better but relatively expensive..  :)

Go to your local supermarket as long as it has an in-store bakery the flour sacks only end up in the balling machine to be recycled we use min 20 bags a day I mean they prob use 20 bags a day 16kg paper sacks

Homebase sell large brown paper sacks for lining compost bins - I bought 3 last year for £5 and still using them this year.

Ask your local greengrocer if you can have the old nets which carrots etc. are supplied in. After all, they do have to pay to dispose of them.

I'm using the local greengrocer more recently, and get chatting to the staff, brown paper potato sacks tend to get dumped, mushroom blue crates, tend to get re-used by taking them back to the fruit & veg market, but of no benefit to the shop owner, so they are happy to give a few away.

In desperation a few old pillowcases, wrapped in dark breathable materials, such as towels or old bedding are preferential to storing your spuds in plastic.

I went to a local farm shop to buy some sacks, they didn't have any for sale but gave me 10 used paper spud sacks, totally chuffed so put a donation in the charity box - result!

I got mine from my lottie shop for 30p each last year.  Large brown paper spud sacks.  Usually get 2 seasons storage from each one.
