Just came back from seeing grand daughter, who went for a week to secondary school after they broke up from junior school, so she could meet some new friends and see the school and go on trips.  All this was free.  Some of the older children at the school were there so they will look after them when they start school and they will know some of the teachers and children.  At first she wasn't sure she wanted to go, but had a lovely time.  It was based on recycling and art work and also going to a farm.  They played drums today and all got a certificate, and the parents, grandparents had to join in (if they wished).  The farm trip was OK but they had to cook their own lunch, and she is a very fussy eater, and she had beetroot drink, which she said made her feel sick, but at least she tried it.  At first she didn't want to go but at the end she didn't want to leave.  She also stood up and did a talk in front of all the children and parents, which was good as she is shy, but not at home.  Now she can't wait to start the big school and will enjoy it (hopefully), a bit different from I went to grammar school and spent the first week crying in the toilet with my friend who came from a church school and weren't used to the 'rough and tumble'.  The uniform is good too, as girls can wear black trousers, not jeans, if they wish, but the kilt looks very nice but as she is tomboy I expect it will be trousers.  Once they start secondary school they grow up so quickly and I don't expect Nanny's house will be so exciting.

I enjoyed visiting my gran all through my school days.  Even drove over on a moped later.   When she starts fighting with her mum as all teenagers do, they will both appreciated somewhere to escape to and get good old fashioned advice.

My daughter starts secondary school in September Borlotti, it is worrying when they start a new school, she is very shy but at least she has a few freinds from her old school in her class.
The youngest starts infants or reception as its called now, but I'm not as worried, which you may find strange but she already nows about 12 of her class mates and it is the same school that my other daughter has just left, so we know the teachers and parents and she is so full of confidence and get up and go, a bit cheeky and just joins in with everything, sings dances and dresses up, don't know where she gets it from.        :-X     ;D ;D ;D

Chace Community School, I went to Southgate County as I passed my 11 plus  ;D ;D (just, third choice school),  The new school is now in Cockfosters, whereas it was in Fox Lane, went to the stone laying ceremony but not to the new school.  Kingsmead is the link school but Chace Community seem to want to bring out the best in all the pupils.  They were told everyone is good at art, as explained by a pupil, that art means different things to different people so even if you draw a pile of bricks, you are making a statement and therefore making art.  (I get the general thought behind it, encourage pupils rather than put them down). Oh well we will wait and see in September but at least she is looking forward to going there which is the main thing.  They won't learn much is they are unhappy.
