Mine had a terrible time in terms of how I looked after them.... too long in the modules, planted out any old how and not really looked after or weeded much, nibbled by rabbits and slugs on the allotment.... the rest got left in pots for a few weeks then scattered amongst my mothers flowerbeds... the results.... mostly 3-4" roots that hold their form well during cooking and pickle beautifully both in strong cold malt the way I like them and in hot weakened sweet distilled the way my mother likes them.... next year I will look after them a bit better and successional sow them so that we don't keep running out :D and I'll not even bother looking for another variety, these have been wonderful....

Here here. Best crop ever, tried 2 others Cylindra and something Detroit Not a patch on the Boltardy.

Chrispy

I grew bolthardy, alto, and some ringed one that I forget the name.

Bolthardy was good, but I prefer alto, the ringed one was not ringed, just white with the odd pink patch  ???
If there's nothing wrong with me, maybe there's something wrong with the universe!

Bean_Queen

I grew Boltardy and Cylindra last year, to compare.
Cylindra beets (geddit?) Boltardy hands down.  And it's easier to hold and to slice.

Flighty

Bean Queen I agree! I grew Cylindra and certainly found them to be as good as, if not better than, Boltardy.
Flighty's plot,  http://flightplot.wordpress.com,  is my blog.

Red Ace is a nice one to try too, grew this as well as Boltardy and got lovely beets.

Sparkly

I grew boltardy, cylindri, golden and choggia this year.

Boltardy was brilliant as always

Cylindri just as good

Golden and Choggia have not tried pickled yet, but nice roasted.

This evening I have been boiling beetroot for pickling. Pulled the rest of the crop up and filled a wheelbarrow!!

Good job we love pickled beetroot!
