I know this plant is deciduous but should mine have completely disappeared at this time of the year or is it dead?

We have caltha palustris flore plena, and no, it shouldn't have disappeared.  Our plants are usually killed off by the frost, and appear very early in the Spring.

P.S. shall pm you shortly re fuchsia.
