The leaves of both my artichokes and potatoes are crling. The artichokes are totally curled like ferns/tubes and twisted. Inside the curled leaves there's nosigh of pests..some leaves have tiny black powdery specs but not all..

the next bed/raised container is spuds...again, spooned leaves...seen what looks like yellow spotted leafhoppers.

What should I do? I can take pictures tomorrow

Have a look at previous posts on manure contamination, and see if it is similar.
Have you used manure, and which type of artichoke? Globe or Jerusalem?

Jerusalem artichokes.

I have used manure BUT not on the artis..or spuds. I used it uphill on  on caulis, lettuce, chinese cabbage, peas beds and theyre all fine...used council soil improver in all beds. Manure was well rotted.

A neighbouring field was sprayed  4 weeks ago and all the weeds in that fields are now totally dead but chap was careful to spray when still weather./no wingd (sprayed to kill buttercups I believe)

ps it looks very similar to manure contamination posts but no manure in those beds and not downhill from manured beds..so confusing

pps the manure was used on one of my squash beds and those two squash are fine...I am well puzzled by this.

Strange indeed as JAs are usually free of pests and diseases-that mention of spraying makes me suspicious though-it only takes a breath of wind for it to drift if applied badly.

Are the affected plants nearest to the field??

Hector

Cleo, they arent the nearest but everything else except beans/peas covered by fleece/tarp/poly at time of spraying.
Beans not curled as they were decapitated by rabbits. Peas look a little curled (further away againn) but better than artis/potatoes.
Peas around the corner/behind a shed are thriving.

If it is weedkiller could they survive....and could crops be ok?

I am also going to water like the clappers in case its heat shock.

Hi Hector,

you say you used manure on beds uphill - it has been reported of run off from contaminated manure affecting crops near muck heaps and downhill.  Sorry you've got this.
is it in the sale?

sorry, I am being ambigous. Artis/potatoes are downhill from manure pile BUT not in a direct line downhill...other stuff that is is doing ok...like squash, lettuce, spinach, caulis are directly downhill from where the pile was. Our garden is all on a slope to some extent, so I wasn't being clear re downhill  ;D
Where the residual manure was was turned over/mixed in and made into a squash bed. Squash are growing on manure pile and thriving.

Thanks for support. I hope the crops are retrievable/plants recover from whatever it is.

BUT not in a direct line downhill

Hi I don't think whether or not it is directly downhill is important, its the fact its generally downhill that does matter. If you think about how water runs off surfaces it can go in different directions, and this might be what's happened to you
Sorry to hear you are having problems
