Beetroot not survived pests

Hi, I've sown Beetroot twice this season so far and both times they've been eaten away to nothing, is there time now for a third sowing (never say die). I sowed some spare seed into pots in the greenhouse today hopefully to get it going a bit faster. What's my chances of getting a crop before winter?

I know what you mean about losing them.

I have given up sowing directly where hey will grow, and I sow in modules where they stay until they are about 3 inches tall, then th go out. I lay plenty of thin sticks over them to keep away the birds, and it does the trick.

It is still June, so I'd say if you go for it straight away, you'll have beetroot in September.

Why don't you cover them with bottle cloches until they are a fair size.  ;D ;D ;D

We only have the plastic milk bottles and they might keep out too much light. Assuming it's birds that are the problem, I'm going to keep the next lot under clotches, but I'm getting impatient now, I want my beetroot  >:(
