alderman peas

I havent grown this variety before, how tall do the peas get before they start flowering, they are around 3 or 4ft no sign of a flower yet.

 :D they will flower eventually ,they just take a while to get there,they get to around six feet tall, but believe me its worth the wait, the peas are wonderful /shades x

That was the original reason for growing short peas; they may have a lousy crop, but they produce it faster! The tall maincrops would follow on.

I remember growing Alderman peas many years ago.  They grew as high as the runner beans.  Fantastic crop I remember but difficult to support.  I want to try them next year.  Any tips out there for supporting them?

I use wigwams wound round with string for the tendrils to cling to.

I use 8-foot canes. I haven't got the £10 for Dan for another couple of weeks, but I'll try to remember to put a pic on my blog now I've got all the peas and beans in.

6ft high netting strung on fencewire between poles (always finish up having to put guy wires on the end poles).  A 30ft row sees me nicely through the winter.

I always grow Alderman peas as they are fantastic croppers, i put up 8 foot bean poles as i do for the runner beans, mine started flowering when they reached about 5 foot high, they are now about 6 foot tall and still getting bigger by the day. I saved my own peas from last years crop, stored them over winter and planted them out with 100% germination rate.........so thousands of lovely tasting peas for FREE, YIPPEE.    ;D

I purchased to try some but never got round to sowing them this year so they are still in the packet.  So I will have to settle for my Hurst Greenshaft again.
