Giant Dwarf Peas

I planted meteor peas from T and M this year.
Now on the packet it says - Height 18 inches - a neat, dwarf habit

As you can see below with Mrs BarreidaleNick being 5-11 tall that something has gorn wrong ....and they are still growing.   ???




What's going on - mislabelled packet? - surely too much fert wouldnt do this?  I'm planting some more to check..

Surely a "Giant dwarf pea" is .... umm... a "pea"?.... Must admit they do look pretty monstrous for meteor, I used to grow them in the garden but gave up becasue despite the good crop and a decent taste, it was doing my back in harvesting something that low growing......

Another good reason to grow heritage "tall" peas... less backache!!  ;D

Better crops from tall peas too. I wouldn't bother with the small ones myself. You may have an accidental hybrid there, or seed of another variety that's crept in. If the peas are any good, save seed!

Send the packet back for a replacement  I think tall ones much better, seem to have a longer cropping period.  Shorter ones good for birdeye to harvest with a machine and freeze within two hours.  Save the seed - peas great from own seed - self fertile.
