I bought Purple Ukraine Tomato seed from Real Seeds and am growing them in the green house, have never grown these before, the plants seem very spindly and leaves very narrow and look ill, have pulled one up and throw it away.

I have since thought maybe they are supposed to be like that, does anybody know? or was it bad seed or my bad caring, all the other tomato plants are OK

Some varieties, especially oxheart shaped cultivars, have very fine, whispy leaves.

Any pictures?

Real seeds describe the foliage thus...

'The foliage is very attractive too, with dark green leaves and an interesting 'feathery' appearance.'

Plum

Petengade , what you describe sounds normal for Purple Ukraine. The ones I have grown for last couple of years just like that

I'm growing Silver fir tree and I have to keep reminding myself it's meant to look like that!!  ::)

Thanks Plum, Seems I dispatched one plant for being normal.   ::)

Yup, they do look a bit weird to start off with but grow really rampantly once they get going.  And they need lots of support as the fruit are huge and there are lots of them.  Lovely tomatoes but make a strange coloured pasta sauce  :P
