I sowed celeraic a few weeks ago in modules and now have several shoots per module that are small and spindly.  What is the next step - should I thin and transplant when big enough?  Can't find much info elsewhere so would really be grateful for help and general tips on growing celeriac.

Cheers

I planted some outside about 3 - 4 weeks ago.  I have seen a few heads coming up and am assuming that they are celeriac (they look a bit like parsnips?)  So will be interested in the replys you get!

Old Bird

;D

ceres

I pricked  them out into small pots then hardened off before planting out last week under milk bottle cloches (been very windy here for weeks).

I planted in modules months ago and they have been really really slow. In the last two weeks or so they have begun to take off and I have planted outside.
Had a suspicion having lost a few in the unheated greenhouse that the slugs love em. Test planted one on the lottie without protection and sure enough it was wiped out overnight. So those on lottie now well defended  ;)
Yep they look a lot like parsnips when they first come up.

mine have been slow growing and are TINY!  I just thought this was because the seeds themselves were tiny.  With regard to pricking out - all shoots look the same and I'd be pushed to single out the one to leave AND would have precious little confidence the one I left would make it!?!  Maybe I should post some photos?  I wouldnt date to plant out yet as they are less than a cm tall......

Maybe I should just wait and see how they go...

Once they have 1-2 proper leaves and are abou 2 cm tall they are easier to prick out - I did mine last week and they are just throwing 3rd and 4th leaves.  I've done mine into 3" pots to grow on for a bit before planting out.

AllaboutLiverpool has a good website page about growing them if you want to look.
Leave only footprints, take only photographs ....
