I have a small orchid that needs repotting.  Any advice?  Can I use normal compost?

What's it in at present? I repotted mine up today in small bark. What type is it?

It is one of those peculiar situations where normal (to us) replanting in good quality compost, does not work.

Orchids are actually best grown so that the roots absorb moisture from the air rather than the soil.

A moth orchid.  It is in a small transparent pot.  It is just leaves no stalk or flowers yet but looks very crowded.  I will try to post pictures over the weekend.

Hi!

I have never repotted any of my orchids yet and I have had some for 5 years.

They are happiest when looking overcrowded in a pot and unless they are making a very obvious escape attempt I would not repot.  I just dunk mine for 1/2 hour in tepid water once every couple of weeks in spring summer and possible once a month autumn/winter - and they are happy as Larry!
