RE lime

Hello .Thanks for the replys to my post .
I think i may have give you the impression i was only asking re lime for brassicas which i follow as TG slides.
as my original post i meant can i still lime around  my onions sets planted 4 wks ago and the rest of my plot were i want to put seeds in to grow and young plants grown from seed.
This because the ph shows its acid (it was manured late winter)  and i want bring it up to be more  neutral.

Yes, just don't mix it with fresh manure as you get ammonia which will damage plants..  :)

so if the manure is reasonably well rotted down it shouldn't be such a problem??

The answer is yes!

When applying to areas that are already planted spread it in a box/circle fashion as I showed in the slide show on brassica planting.

Take care not to touch the plants with it as it might be too hot for some plants!

I know this can be difficult so once you have spread the lime, water the plants with clean water, and this should wash off any lime that has got on to the plants.

In areas that are not planted; spread it evenly then rake it in!
