Apart from the usuals I have a variety of more unusual beans this year:

Pea Bean
Trail of Tears
Brita's Footlong
Oro
Birds Egg Horticultural
Ruths Bible
Madiera Maroon
Kew Blue
Italian Gold

has anyone tried any of these before? I dont know how tall they'll grow.

Pea Bean, Trail of Tears and Madeira are all tall 6'+... Madeira is a lovely looking bean.  ;D

I was reading about Kew Blue and ended up buying 6 varieties. Apparently Kew Blue looks amazing. According to Daughter of the Soil.

Save some for a swap later in the season!!  ;D

I got nowhere with Trail of Tears last year, it likes more warmth than we had then. I'm trying again this year.

sawfish

Strangely enough Robert, Trail of Tears is one that I've tried up here before over the last two years with great results. Perhaps its something other than the weather?

I wouldn't recommend letting the pods get big though as they become tough.

Could be I suppose. Cosse Violette was the only one that grew for me last year, but I'll try again. Could be the wet actually; I had a lot of trouble last year which was probably down to waterlogging rather than cold.

Where did you buy the Kew Blue from Sawfish? Is it that they have blue flowers or are the beans coloured?

saddad

If you need some to try Robert just PM me... they really don't like wet feet...  :-X

Twoflower

You should  try growing them over here then, no chance at the moment of getting wet anything :-[
