my girlfriend got back from a holiday in Italy yesterday with a medlar stone from a medlar she ate.

Does anyone know how to grow these from seed. Would this be the British variety? She said they were orange in colour.

Medlars are horrible and not worth growing, in my opinion.

Ex-owner of 2 medlar trees.

Are they the things you have to allow to partially rot before you eat them .... or is that quince?.... never can remember......

Yep Chris, called bletting... True quince are rock hard unless we get a '76 Summer...  :-\

She said they were lovely. I just fancy giving it a go. Popped it in a pot of sandy compost and put it in the cold frame.

I wonder if its a heat loving italian variety?
