Just a suggestion (I am no expert!) but I wonder if it would help to hang a length of chain or something metallic from a metal part of the chair so that it touches the ground. Maybe this way any static charge buildup would be able to discharge to the earth?

The problem is obviously rooted in the fact that you are going much too fast and the friction between you and particles of dust in the air is causing the charge buildup - you really should keep your speed to under 65mph  ;)

Echo the above. A lengh of chain dragging on the floor will do the trick.

Rosebud, it might be worth mentioning it to the people you bought it from for their advice.  They won't think you are silly.

I get electric shocks from Supermarket trolleys at times, it's most odd.   :-\

Static always comes from walking on Br-Nylon carpets, check you've not had a new one fitted and then step onto your buggy.

You can get the same effect from rubbing a balloon vigorously  onto your jumper finding it will stick onto it.

What's the seat fabric made from, possibly it has man made fibre causing static?

It only happens when i am out it is never used in the home we have all wooden floors so cannot be that. It is a leather seat., we are taking it back to the shop on Friday its absolutely ridiculous, it has only started doing this the last couple of weeks.
It has made me nervous of anyone touching me while i am on it i passed a couple of things to my OH in Sainsburys yesterday & such a charge went through my hands it was horrible.
