Hi, my sister Kath, rang at the weekend  with a query about her fig tree.  I couldn't really help so I thought I would ask you all!  ???
They have a fig tree in her garden in South London which they cut back a lot last year, and this year it has had a profusion of tiny little green fruits on it.  They don't seem to come to anything, just stay green and are empty inside, some just fall off the tree.  She is wondering why the tree hasn't fruited properly and what she needs to do next year to ensure she can get some fruit.  Would appreciate any ideas.  :) busy_lizzie

I think figs take 2 years to fruit, those little fruits will grow in to ripe figs next year, but I think you have to protect each baby fig from the frost
Lottie-less until I can afford a house with it's own garden.

The received wisdom is to take off anything bigger than a pea before winter as they'll come to nothing and probably rot. The pea sized ones ought to grow into figs next year.

Thanks Moggle and Derbex for the advice.  I have passed your comments on to my sister now. :-* busy_lizzie
