Hi all,

Can you compost unwanted citrus fruit? or is it a big no no

Thanks Betula,

Wasn't sure on that one. Someone in the household decided to go on a diet of mainly fruit. We now have a fruit bowl of dodgy looking clementines, apples and pears. >:(

Hi spuds I believe in small portions its OK but the worms don't seem to like too much, some use them as slug traps, the old boy next to me  throws them under his bushes they soon break down.  ;D ;D ;D
MAY THE CORN BE WITH YOU.

Thanks CK

Slug traps, now theres an idea!

I put it in mine but in small amounts, as Kev says worms don't like it, but slug traps are a good idea/ shades x

i think household quantities is fine - ive always composted citrus and no probs.  Maybe consider throwing them near acid loving plants - I chuck mine by my camelia!  I tend not to put any in the wormery.  Never tried the slug traps but I reckon thats a good idea, espeically with grapefruits!

Oh and consider chopping oragnes/lemons up - they'll compst quicker!

Never thought about this before, but I do try and eat them rather than upsetting the worms.  But always seems to end up with one rotten one in every batch.  I think I will try giving them to the raspberry plants they like things a little more acidic.  Up to now they have had to make do with coffee.

we use a lot of citrus each week and compost all in my 3ft sq bin, i think a compost heap where all sorts are thrown in should cope just fine with regular household amts as stated earlier but a wormery where mainly veg waste is added will struggle.
