My little flock of hens, 2 bluebells, 2 black rock and 2 speckledys have eaten their pen bare so I have extended their forage area to give them more greenage. I now want to reseed the bare run so that I can rotate between the 2 areas. What does anyone recommend as a suitable seed mix for the bare area?
many thanks...Chris

I'd put in as much variety as you can - grass+clovers, dandelions, dock, comfrey, elder, etc. Guess it depends how long you can leave it though before the chooks come back...

Hi dingerbell!

Just noticed that you have bluebells - I was so excited at the weekend - went to a farm that sells feeds and all such stuff and they have a farmyard teaming with chickens dogs and whatever.  Anyway saw the bluebell chicken there and they also have a very splendid cockerell was so enamoured that I paid for a dozen eggs - have got the use of an incubator and so - chocks away I will have baby chicks in 3 weeks.  The eggs are all random ones and hopefully I will have a few from the bluebelle one and also they had blackrocks and brown chooks too.  So should be a good medley.  Obviiously I am not going to get a pure bred bluebell - but they are really beautiful birds.

My Bluebelles are the most relaxed friendly chooks I've ever owned...really sweet nature. I've just purchased 2 POL Speckledeys and the Bluebelles have welcomed them to the flock. The Black Rocks on the other hand take great delight in chasing the newcomers around the pen, pecking and generally being bad natured.....Good Luck
