First mistake?

Hello everyone. I've been on the Basics forum area and there were some very helpful folk who gave me some super potato advise. Now I'm moving onto pests...

In October I finally got a small half-allotment  ;D, and my dear mum immediately bought me some purple sprouting broccoli and japanese winter onions.

They seemed to be doing very well until the recent cold snap (around Christmas), and without anything else planned til Spring, I'd not been down there until yesterday.

With it being so cold, I hadn't been too worried about pests, but was obviously very disappointed to see all the broccoli leaves almost completely eaten; their skeletons of veins left, but otherwise clearly and thoroughly munched  :'(.

What could have been out and about eating my broccoli during the cold, and how do I stop it now?

Thanks

going by what others have advised me, it the pigeons. Put some netting over if it's not to late.

Yep, I vote pigeons too. They had the best of my PSB last year because I neglected to net it, I've learned my lesson now. The pigeons in our area are the size of small planes, so they are obviously still getting their snap from somewhere......!
If it's not pouring with rain, I'm either in the garden or at the lottie! Probably still there in the rain as well TBH....🥴

Yep, Pidgeons.....   Thats one of the first of my mistakes too.... ::)
Smile at your enemies.

It makes them wonder what you are up to.

Net them straight way. They should recover, though obviously it's a setback.

Thanks everyone - sorry it took so long to reply, been away.

Right! Netting it will be. Never thought of pigeons.
