Well i can tell you i am glad to be home ,just spent the last two days at Glencoe for the annual haggis hunt and it was freezing despite having two of everything on we all thought we were going to be frozen.

But never the less about fifty odd people turned up and the hunt was soon under way it is tackled similar to grouse beating with a few folk beating at the heather and prodding there long sticks in the nooks and crannies and a few of us standing a good distance away waiting for the call haggie coming haggie coming.

The lad next to me was very quick of the mark as the call haggie coming was shouted and it was hilarious to see him charging down the slope trying to trip up the haggis as it ran and tumbled down the slope eventually he managed to get his stick in between its front legs and throw it off balance and as it rolled he managed to net it and wasn't he pleased to be the first to catch this seasons haggis.

Soon the call haggie coming could be heard all over Glencoe the locals were cheering as we ran down the slopes and at times falling head over heals trying to catch the haggis before it bolted down a hole or back into the heather.

Eventually most of us had managed to catch at least one and although tired soar and bedraggled we set of to the local pub to have a well earned rest and a couple of drams to get the blood circulating again it was a great night  the locals were sometime doubled up with laughter as they told the stories of some of us tearing about like demented chickens trying to catch the haggis.

So its up to the lotto tomorrow to collect the tatties and neaps to go with our haggis on Sunday and drink a few drams to the bard who started this crazy haggis hunt.

Will i take part in next years haggis hunt only time will tell.

Now that sounds like good fun. I forgot it was near to Burns night so the diet might just be forgotten an we will have a bit of a ceilidh.  Better go and have a quick practice on the squeezebox and sample the malt.
