Hubby and I did the energy saving bit this year, rads off in rooms not used and turned down in those that are, thermostat down on the boiler, water on only once a day, heating only turned on when we come in from work (not a cosy welcoming house as it used to be), bath water shared every other day (strip wash on the other).

Guess what!  Gas bill came in today and we'd used half the amount of gas we did this quarter last year.

Got to be a result I thought!

Noooooooooooooo way - saved just over £19 on our frugal usage.

Phoned Eon and asked if they had received any of that free gas that was around when there was such a glut and they said "Oh, were reducing our energy prices early in the new year"!

Know we would have seen a bill double last year size, but ...................................

No wonder people get disheartened.

Don't you just know you are being buggered about by the utility companies.  Your account is well in credit, but they insist in doubling your direct debit payments, particularly when fuel prices are going down. I'm not a great believer in government intervention, but I think the utility companies should be stopped raising prices, and using our money (in their bank).

I also think that the government should stop increasing the tax on the price of fuel.

With you on all you say Valmarg - probably could have saved a ha'pence or two if we were on direct debit, but as you say, why should they borrow my money for free!

We were over £200 in credit and they have increased our monthly direct debit!   >:( Reading an article today about utility companies taking excess and making people pay more than they need to - financial experts believe they have a surplus of around £4billion sitting in their coffers.  The cheeky gits will not refund the difference neither >:( >:(    I would rather pay my direct debit and settle any overpayment as and when it occurs.
