I was in a china shop a few weeks ago and looked at some of the prices, £22 for a tea plate! I think the days of us being hoodwinked by these companies are over. Value for money is the order of the day. I like to drink my tea out of a bone china beaker, but I would not pay more than £3 for one. If I hade a spode one, It would not be used in case it got broke.

Sad to see old companies going down the drain but they only have themselves to blame. Give us a reasonably priced object then we would not have to get the cheap Honkonese copy.

But the fine china is handpainted and is at the end of the day is really an art form. I have a couple of pieces bought for me for special birthdays which I love - the same as I would do a original piece of art work for the wall. These are pieces that are kept and looked at so I expect them to cost a bit more.

However I agree with you, Ace, in terms of china for everyday use then the mass produced, transfer print, machine finished standard beaker should not cost much as it isn't worth paying much for.
