I just thought I would share this with you all. Just read it on Martin Lewis email

ARGOS CHARGES CUSTOMERS TWICE ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 24TH

What's happened?

If you shopped in Argos recently, it might be worth checking your bank or card statement. The store's charged 190,000 people twice, due to a system error.

The error only affected purchases made on Friday 24 Oct, so if you bought something then, check your bank statement to see if you were double-charged.

What happens now?

Argos says it's now refunded all the cash, but it might take several days for the cash to come through to your account. If yours doesn't arrive, call customer services on 0845 6403030.

For more on how to make companies play fair, read the Consumer Rights guide.

This happens sometimes when the credit card file is sent twice for settlement and it happens.

When your card is authorised its usualy rubber stampted on auth and a detailed check done later in this settlement file which goes to the back and your account rather than the very basic information used for the innital auth.

Its good practice to ALWAYS check your receipt against your credit card and i do this as a matter of course at the end of each month. You would be surprised what you find, things not charged at all. Transactions added twice and then a credit an hour or two later.

Having worked in the industry i know its a risk.

I also keep the void, failed, and error receipts which they normaly dont give you unless you ask as i know shops dont always pop this into confidential waste and this can be used for stealing card information.
