Do you know what variety they are? It could be they are a late cabbage like Ormskirk. They do take their time to form a heart. I am growing some of  these and in some the heart hasn't formed at all yet. I'm not too worried as the same thing happened last year, and they turned out ok  in the end and provided nice tasty cabbages in early spring when there wasn't much else around. Were they sown or planted late? this could have a bearing too. Hopefully someone else with more knowledge will be along soon!

This was mu first year and freinf gave them to me so not sure on the type, was just keen to get some in LOL.

I planted them out in mid summer, he grew them from seed. As I said they are a nice size, just no heart (thanks for the word !!) I was hoping they would be ready for christmas.

I read somewhere, I think it was here, use coffe.  ???

Any help as always is greatly rcvd.

Midsummer planting a bit late I would suggest?
An old trick is to pierce the stem with a wooden toothpick or such - encourages hearting.
