You can pick your friends, and you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose

Not with caps that shape. If it's under pines it could easily be a Lactarius.

Froglegs

I have a pine about 6ft away Will this fungus harm anything

jjt

Definitely not. Not even you if you eat it.

Ya can eat it :o :o

With all due respect JJT, I would strongly advise Froggy NOT TO EAT IT.

It is notoriously difficult to identify different types of fungus 'in real life' let alone from a small photo on a forum.

Roger Phillips is the 'man' who wrote the book on fungus (recently updated and re-published) - I would recommend it. But STILL be extra careful when identifying edible versus non-edible funghi.

Far from harming anything, it's vital. Most land plants, but particularly conifers, which seriously acidify soil, depend on fungi to supply them with nutrients.

I doubt froglegs is dumb enough to scoff it on that say so. If he did I expect he still lives. You are right though Trixiebelle, one thing to add is if you're after identifying fungi use at least 2 field guides. The bloke who wrote the horse whisperer is pretty sick at the moment after making a mistake I believe.

ME DUMB!!! who are you calling dumb >:(   i allways let the wife try them first ;) :D

Be careful like they say. Somebody died about 3 weeks ago down here and her friend has just got out of hospital. They say the 'mushrooms' they ate has the same affect as paracetemol poisoning.
