Dan wrote me that he is going to set up a forum for the veggie show that was initiated by Multiveg.

We take our pictures between 23 and 29 August and have them posted by Sept. 6, no more pictures posting after this date please. A voting poll will be put on the forum on September 6th., the poll will close sunday 12 sept and the winner will be known.

May I suggest that we have one thread for show discussion and one thread for each veggie. The veggie threads will only have pictures of ...........right, veggies. When you are posting your picture you should first see if there already is a thread for that particular vegetable, if not, you can start one for that veggie.

What do you think? Should we also have a thread for veggie exhibitions, like baskets or other showy ways to exhibit different types of veggies together?
Then there have to be two polls, one for individual veggies and one for multiple veggies.

See you all at the show.

How about a thread for most unusual display container? Saw this at a flower show recently and it was amazing the imagination people had, especially if their veggies weren't quite up to winning standards!

Somebody else suggested to include flowers too. It's everybody's show really but we should try to keep it in such a way that voting is possible. Any suggestions on how to do the voting with the polls when different catagories besides just veggies are shown, without making it complicated?

Plocket

I don't really know. Every category of vegetable should be voted separately so you have best potatoes, best marrow, best runner beans etc. For best in show overall there could be a seperate thread for people to cast their votes.

Multiveg

Thanks Ina for the reminder.

Suggestions for other categories:

One ugly vegetable;
selection of vegetables (I remember doing this sort of class at my father's allotment - I made a smily face with tomatoes for eyes or did I use the tomatoes to make the smile?, and can't remember what else I used!)
Best allotment/vegetable garden - a picture of your veggie patch

Thinking on the flower front, maybe we could have a few classes - one for roses, one for dahlias, one for other flowers, one for pot flowering plant (my cactus won this at the aforementioned allotment show - 40p!), perhaps herbs should be included.

I am not sure how the things should be exhibited - I think that one cauli, one cabbage, one squash thingy, whereas one potato, one pea is not enough - maybe about half a dozen of these should be displayed. what do you think?

I agree with Plocket. A poll on each catagory thread and a seperate over-all poll. Multiveg has agreed to place the polls on Sept. 6th.

Yes multiveg, where possible, several examples of one sort should be exhibited I think. Just like in a real show.

It would be best if conversation about the pictures will be on a seperate 'show talk' thread in the A4A veggie show forum and not in between the pictures. Otherwise the threads get too long and it would  make it hard to weed through all the conversation to find the pictures, pick a winner and cast your vote.

We are all winners, simply for growing veggies and other things but now is your chance to become an "A4A veggie show" winner.

So do we have to pick our veg -as in a real show. I'm thinking of my pumpkins -too early to pick them now.

Also what about measurements -are we interested?

Since it is a virtual show I don't suppose it matters whether the veg is  picked or not - you can't bring it here!!! If you want to show how big your pumpkin is can't you take the photo with a ruler next to it? If not then put the measurements on underneath the photo.

Hi Dan,
Would it be possible to make a new board under "Allotment stuff" (like where the Gallery and the Basics are) and call it "A4A veggie show 2004"?
Under the title maybe you can write: Pictures taken 23 Aug through 29 Aug, posted by 6 Sept, polls open 6 Sept and close 12 Sept.

We can then make our own threads, the first one will be show talk and then a different thread, with only pictures, for each catagory. Whoever posts a picture will first look if there already is a thread for that catagory, if not, they can make a new thread for it with the name of the catagory.

Is it possible to put a poll at the top of each thread on Sept. 6?  Otherwise they can go on the bottom, Multiveg will put the polls on (I will be gone that week).

I talked with Multiveg about it and we think that if the show is a success, maybe next year we can do it again at a certain date but then with any show picture taken during the year, not just during one week.

Thanks a lot Dan,
Ina
